Homeless Outreach (St. Vincent de Paul)

Join Duquesne's chapter of the St. Vincent de Paul Society in their weekly outreach to the homeless of Pittsburgh. Sunday nights at 7pm the SVdP and those willing to donate a few hours of their time meet at Laval House and prepare food and clothing to take downtown. The route through the Point and the Cultural Districts returns back to Campus around 9pm.
Emmaus House (CEL)
Just Youth's CEL will be sponsoring a service opportunity at Emmaus House on the South Side. Emmaus House is a residential facility for mentally challenged adults. The group will be doing a fall craft that the residents can use to decorate their rooms. All volunteers will be meeting at 6pm and will return at approximately 7:45pm. Evergreen Monthly Uptown Cleanup
Help clean-up our neighborhood while forming relationships with our neighbors in Uptown!  Evergreen sponsors bi-weekly clean-ups for groups that are willing to spend a few hours on a Saturday picking up litter on the streets near our campus.  A group need only have at least 5 volunteers that are available on a Saturday of your choice from 10am-noon.  Evergreen will provide all clean-up supplies as well as lead the clean-up that day.  For more information or to sign up your group, please contact Luci-Jo at dimaggi171@duq.edu or X1405.

Allegheny County Jail Hospitality - "Be as mindful of prisoners as if you were sharing their imprisonment, and of the ill-treated as of yourselves, for you may yet suffer as they do." Hebrews 13:3
If you are a musician interested in sharing your gifts for the ministry of hospitality, please consider serving at the Allegheny County Jail!  This opportunity helps to create a more positive atmosphere in the ACJ waiting room for those waiting to see loved ones that have been incarcerated.  Time slots are available each weekday from 10am-2pm.  If you would like to schedule a time, please contact Luci-Jo at dimaggi171@duq.edu or X1405.


Shepherd’s Wellness Outreach
Shepherd’s Wellness is a gathering of people affected by AIDS and HIV. Students help to prepare and serve dinner as well as share the meal and fellowship with the community.

Holy Family Institute
CEL will be making its first trip of the semester to Holy Family Institute on Saturday September 29 th. This year we will be working with girls between the ages of 12 and 17 years old doing cooking projects, playing sports, and building relationships. Space is limited for this project so if you are interested in helping out on Sept. 29 th please contact Luci-Jo at dimaggi171@duq.edu.

Recycling for the Poor - Collect Ink Cartridges to Help the Poorest of Our World.

By recycling your print cartridges through the program you can help both the poor and the enviroment! Recycling for the Poor is an internation program that recycles printer cartridges and uses the funds to provide food, shelter, and education. In addition, the act of recycling the cartridge helpts to prevent ground water contamination and clogged landfills. Nearly all types of cartidges acceptable! (Please see www.foodforthepoor.org for an exact list)

Cartridges can be dropped off in the Spiritan Campus Mnistry Center in Towers, the CM offic ein 102 of the Administration Building, or to any Spritiant Campus Ministry's office. For more information, please ocntact Fran turkett at X6016 or at turkett@duq.edu

Look at what a difference your action can make!

5 to 10 cartridges = 200 pounds of beans and rice, enough to feed 800 children a nutrtious meal.

125 cartridges = a years worth of education to an entire classroom of children.

500 to 100 cartridges = a home for a poor family.
